The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is a body
established by the Prosecution of Offences
Act 1985, responsible for prosecuting all

headed by the Director of Public Prosecutions
(DPP), and brings England and Wales in line
with Scotland in having a prosecution service
independent of the police.
